Power Hour Mentor Application — Girls Inc. of Greater Miami

Your path

Power Hour has two kinds of mentors. Pick the one that sounds like you, and the rest of the application will fit your path. This takes about 10 minutes, and you can move back a step any time.

College Mentor

You're in college now, or recently graduated. Any major, any school. You'll support sessions and build a mentoring relationship with a small group, mostly 9th and 10th graders, sharing the college experience honestly along the way.

Industry Mentor

You're a working professional with at least a year of experience, at any level or stage. You'll sit on the expert panel for your career cluster's spotlight session and mentor a small group of 11th and 12th graders on their social innovation project.

What we ask of you

Power Hour works because mentors show up consistently. Here's the commitment, plainly.

Attend at least four of the seven Saturdays, including the three required sessions marked below. Tell us ahead if one won't work.
Complete Mentor Training before your first Saturday.
Join a short virtual prep call before each session.
If you're open to leading a mini-lesson, a short planning call with staff beforehand. Optional either way.
Complete onboarding and a background check before you begin.

Saturdays run 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., mostly at FIU (Graham Center, Room 355). Kickoff is at the University of Miami. Lunch is on us.

Jan 9, Feb 6 and Mar 13 are the required sessions for industry mentors. If one of them truly won't work, apply anyway and tell us on the call; we would rather solve a date with you than lose you over one.
